Every WARM ME hat, scarf and sweater begins where craft is still part of everyday life: in Nepal, in the heart of bustling Kathmandu. The city sits high in a valley beneath the Himalayas — a place of temple bells and market calls, where the old and the everyday exist side by side, and where working with your hands has never gone out of fashion. It is here, at our partner workshop, that 70 knitters work on old hand-knitting machines, with skills passed down through generations. Every stitch passes through hands that know exactly what they are doing. There is no hurry here, and it shows in the pieces.
The story starts even earlier, on the high plains of Mongolia. That is where our cashmere comes from: 100 % Mongolian fibre with a diameter of just 14–19 microns — far finer than wool, which measures 20 to 40. It is this fineness that makes cashmere what it is: warm without weight, breathable, soft against the skin, and remarkably durable.
Colour comes first: the yarn is dyed before it is knitted, and around 60 colours are active each year, drawn from a palette of more than 500 shades developed over 15 years of work. Since WARM ME was founded in Salzburg in 2011, more than 50 designs have taken shape this way — from light & delicate to chunky & thick, from airy 2-ply knits for mild days to warm, voluminous 12-ply pieces for deep winter. Each thickness has its season; together, they carry you through the whole year.
What connects all of it is time. Cashmere stores warmth, breathes, resists odour — and it doesn't need washing after every wear, which is kinder to the fibre and to the environment. A well-made piece grows more familiar with every winter, and the longer it stays with you, the more sense it makes. No seasonal pressure, no trends: pieces that stay. A companion for many years.
